At the start of the month, I was invited to a cocktail masterclass at The Cosy Club in Birmingham. Now, I may be an expert in drinking cocktails, but I’m certainly a complete novice when it comes to making them!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by our expert mixologists, who had a refreshing Aperol Spritz waiting for us. As this was my first blogging event, this was a great opportunity to get to know the other local bloggers over a civilised aperitif – oh, and a tequila shot!
After an impressive demo, the first cocktail we had a go at making was the Rhubarb & Elderflower Spritz. Despite messing up my measurements, the cocktail looked and tasted amazing!

DISCLAIMER – shaking the cocktail mix is not as easy as it looks! But don’t worry, the professionals are on hand to make sure you don’t go chucking cocktail mix all over you!

All this shaking was hungry work, so I couldn’t wait to tuck into some tapas. The spread was absolutely delicious, and accommodated both vegetarian and vegan requirements. My favourites had to be the halloumi fries and the Spanish sausage.

After indulging in a variety of small plates, it was time to have a go at making the Blow a Raspberry at Collin. Despite feeling super determined not to mess this one up, the atmosphere was relaxed, and it’s all about having some fun!

It was particularly fascinating to learn that every cocktail on the Cosy Club menu has come from a colleague’s take on a classic cocktail. The team runs an annual competition, and it’s a huge achievement for staff to win a place on the menu. This just highlighted how passionate and talented they are at what they do. I had never fully appreciated the craft of mixology, and all of the hard work and training that goes into it!

I love trying new things, and the cocktail masterclass was a great way to socialise over a drink or two – without the nuisance of queuing at the bar or shouting over music.
If you’re looking for a night out with friends and fancy opting for something a bit different – I would definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s great fun, you’ll receive fantastic service, AND it’s reasonably priced!
